Targeted proactive patrols in Ancoats

Greater Manchester Police’s City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team have been conducting targeted and proactive patrols in the Ancoats area of Manchester City Centre as part of ongoing efforts to tackle crime and keep local communities safe following reports of anti social behaviour in the area.

During the patrols, officers stopped and searched a male acting suspiciously. The search resulted in an offensive weapon being recovered, where the male was arrested.

Following enquiries, he was subsequently charged and remanded to appear before the court.

On a separate stop, officers also arrested another individual in area in connection with immigration offences. The individual was taken into custody for further enquiries and appropriate action.

These proactive patrols form part of the City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team’s ongoing work to identify and disrupt criminal activity, provide a visible policing presence and to keep the public safe. 

Officers will continue to carry out targeted patrols and enforcement activity across the area, working alongside partners and the local community to help keep the city centre a safe place to live, work and visit.
